Adam and Karen’s Tiny Off-Grid House
It's always nice to come across a website where you're learning really interesting stuff, a site with plenty of useful information and lots of photos to follow along. When I came across "Adam and Karen's Tiny Off-Grid House," I couldn't help but read further as there was so much to see and take in.
This little house in Equinunk, PA is being built by a couple, Karen and Adam. They follow the process of building their home on this blog, which is in four parts the land, planning the house, house raising and the finishes. Each step has plenty of photos to see their progress, and you'll find yourself wanting to jump ahead to see how the house looks along the way. Karen and Adam say that for them building small is an adventure in long term sustainability which leads to comfort, affordability and style. The house is off grid with a connection to the land. At 280 square feet on 12 acres, there is a lot of outside room to roam, the property is mountainside, surrounded by farms, a summer camp and recreation. The couple had no prior construction experience.
The couple said that it was the online do it yourself resources there were the key to they're building success. The blog outlines the 4 main steps to they're building. Looking at this site is refreshing as it goes to prove that you don't need to have prior experience in building to build a home, there are plenty of people out there that have and are building homes on their own, making it a learning process as they go along. With that said, if this is something you are considering, you will want to research each step, talk to other people, possibly attend a house building workshop, make use of all the resources that are available to you, so you do the job right.
